Hi, I’m Fi — welcome to The Earthy Edit.

I grew up in Catalonia, a small region in the northeast of Spain nestled between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea. My childhood was shaped by slow mornings in a quiet town, where I’d help my grandparents tend to their veggie patch and wander through nearby forests collecting herbs and wildflowers — something that’s respectfully permitted and culturally cherished in that part of the world.

But when I moved to the city of Barcelona for university, I lost touch with that earthy rhythm. Life sped up, and so did I. I spent almost a decade there, chasing studies, work, and city life — disconnected from the soil, seasons, and simple pleasures that once grounded me.

It wasn’t until I moved to Australia, originally for a short trip that turned into a new life, that the connection began to stir again. After settling in Melbourne in 2023, I started growing a few herbs and vegetables — more out of curiosity than confidence — and that small step opened up something much deeper.

I discovered the beauty and resilience of native and Indigenous Australian plants, many of which were entirely unfamiliar to me. As I learned more, I became captivated — not just by their aesthetics, but by their purpose, their stories, and their role in healing the land. Gardening shifted from a personal project to a collaborative process with nature.

Now, the garden is my place of pause and presence. It’s where I explore, learn, and make space for wildness to do what it does best. I find it deeply nourishing to let go of perfection and allow plants, weather, and time to shape the space organically. There’s something endlessly fascinating about watching nature take the lead — the self-seeded surprises, the arrival of pollinators, the seasonal transformations.

This journey also led me to reflect on the impact of urban living on local ecosystems. I learned how reduced habitat, human expansion, and even domestic pets — like my beloved cat — can unintentionally endanger native wildlife. I began to see my garden not just as a sanctuary for myself, but as a potential refuge for birds, insects, and other small creatures struggling to find safe ground.

The Earthy Edit was born from this growing awareness and quiet transformation. It’s a space for imperfect, grounded, curious gardening — rooted in respect for the land, a love of learning, and a belief that small actions can create meaningful change. Whether you’re a seasoned grower or a wondering wanderer like me, I hope this space invites you to explore, experiment, and reconnect with the wild — wherever you are.
